Audio interface

I would take issue with part of this statement. I've used MOTU midi
interfaces and their card based audio interfaces since the advent of the
original 2408mkI which I think was over a decade ago. I currently run a
24i, 24io, 308, and 2408mkIII. I've never been abandoned on an upgrade or
forced off an interface due to OS changes. I can't think of any other
product out there that this would have been true of. The only time MOTU
has messed me up was when they discontinued support for the parallel port
MIDI interfaces in favor of USB back in the day. That really stung as 8x8
midi interfaces back in those days were seriously expensive and having to
repurchase three of them really pissed me off.

That being said, there PC support isn't great despite PC representing the
larger part of their business - at least last time I talked to them about
it. You do have to proceed with upgrades with caution as there have been
chipset issues (all on AMD) but that was quite a while ago.

I wouldnt let the update cycle bother you. RME prefers to refine its
drivers rather than it's hardware. MOTU, on the other hand, likes to tell
you to buy the new unit to get the new drivers to work with the new OS you
have installed. MOTU loves to make design decisions that lock their gear
into working with a certain mother board or chipset and then your screwed
when thats not the norm down the road. Ive been burned a couple times by
them, and won't ever go back.

Go with the RME if at all possible.
