Ubuntu studio running from a SD card...

Guys,
I'm leaving to china on satruday, but forgot to install ubuntu on my 
laptop (Win7) in time.
I don't want to risk to install ubuntu and 'loose' windows while doing 
this. (IT is probably not capable to resurrect my PC in time, an I need 
some sleep now actually)

Now i actually only want to use ardour as I've got a couple of songs I'd 
like to work on while in China.
Can I run ubuntu from a CD or SD card and use ardour?
I hope to find some time tomorrow to look into this.
