Basically, they're doing the Apple thing, but now the other way around. 
Not a big surprise, really: Windows NT 4.0 ran not only on Intel (32 
bits), but also on Alpha, MIPS and PowerPC. So platform-independence has 
long been a part of the Windows NT family, but until recently, Microsoft 
couldn't be arsed.
