Highly variable, depending on compiler/build:

Summary: if you code for it (i.e. use intrinsics), you can get great performance out of the NEON engine .. but otherwise yeah, its a bit fiddly.

I suppose this is where Joost says "just get an Intel-based board and forget about the FPU problem", heh heh ..
