That was my first thought as well.

A better approach than cranking the volume on the monotron straight into the soundcard would be to either put something analog in between the monotron and the fireface that you can distort as desired or run a plugin in Ableton that can fake the distortion before going to the output.  The actual ADCs need to be fed sound at a reasonable level.
