If you do such a thing, be explicit that you're helping them out with a lower fee. If not, you'll have set an expectation which will be hard to change, even if they become successful.
I would always charge a 'fair price'. Hourly rates are probably quite a bit lower than software development (and estimates are much more unpredictable). If I would budget a custom-produced track for a corporate project, I'd expect to pay something in the order of 2-5K. That would give me unlimited usage rights (not copyright though).
Matt, didn't you have experience in this?
