In my early electronic gigging days I used an ASR-10 as my main instrument, with some analog synths (CS-15, a Polivoks) and some drum boxes (TR-505, Drumstation).

The sampler had 8 sounds (timbres) and each of those could be sequenced, looped etc.

Later I went with the MPC2000 and sort of abandoned it after a few years because of it's awful file-system (only 128 files on one disk, no folders) and the enormous hassle it was to translate existing band-projects to it for live-use.

This is where Ableton Live came in. I like it, but sometimes I don't find it as straight-forward to use as that old ASR-10...

So Maybe my question about the renaissance of hardware samplers was one I asked myself..;)

I quite like the idea of having a toy like the octatrack.

If only I could justify the cost... Hmmmm now if *that one* project comes through in April, it won't be a big deal..;)

Yes, I didn't really pay much attention to their artistic quality, I listened to them as a sort of illustration of the concepts. They were boring musically, but the stuff you can do with that machine sounds quite nice...

I guess I am hooked...;)
