"If you can't open it, you don't own it" MAKEzine once said. I tend to agree.

I agree with your rant too. it's so awful to see all these unfixable things. Sometimes you can open them only to find some chips under hot glue, nothing fixable for even the most willing of consumers..

I'm not there entirely yet. I enjoy gadgets too much. but longevity, recycling, reuse, downcycling and avoiding of waste is a high priority to me, most of the time. Sometimes I get so very frustrated that I seem to be the only one, and toss things that should be recycled or something similar.

But I do understand your feeling. I finally got myself a new electric bass and I inherited my grandfather's piano. Those two "real" instruments just feel like something entirely different from all the synths, especially the software ones. I enjoy (making and listening to) acoustic music, heck I even started listening to John Coltrane to figure out what all that Jazz is all about...

All of our systems, society, government, money- and other markets are focused on growth, rather than a cycle of use and reuse&recycle.

this is turning into a rant of its own..;-)
