If you're starting fresh (e.g. no upgrade) and have no legacy hardware, 
I'd definitely go for the 64bit version now. For a start, you can 
actually use 4GB of RAM (most machines otherwise only allow about 3.5 or 
less, depending on the graphics card). Also, you get a few extra 
registers in 64bit mode, which translates into more speed for some 
applications.
