I should tip my hat to Vladimir Kuzmin. I have not seen a filter circuit like 
this before. The topology is normal, but the way the time constants are varied 
is (was) original. Very pragmatic, and also responsible for the unique sound.

I didn't notice this until looking more carefully at the component values (the 
two capacitors are merely decoupling, not filtering).
