I think Jay's statement is a bit extreme, but that kind of vocal 
"treatment" does reduce the singer's contribution to a pure source of 
basic samples. The singer becomes the instrument of the producer and 
ceases to be an artist in its own right. That's not necessarily wrong, 
but then the producer can just as well credit ProTools... :-)
