workstation synthesizer

Guys,

My Wave World colleague Harry wants to buy a workstation synthesizer.

Does any one of you have any advice as to which brand/type would 
be the best for composing, recording and playing with a piano feel?
Harry is not someone who wants to go extremely deep in editing, 
he is more a guy who wants to play, record and mix without too 
much hassle. He loves cool sounds, though.
