Yeah, well... 'the' European connector. Ahem. Cough. Take three random 
European members of the Music Bar (say, Paul M., Gert and Martin) and 
they'll all use a different connector.

There's a bewildering amount of different standards, and that's just 
western Europe. Quite a few of those are more or less compatible; mine, 
obviously,  isn't. :)
