Nah... to me, it sounds all wrong. It doesn't even sound harsher than 
Arabic (or Dutch, or Swiss German for that matter), but I find the 
intonation impossible to listen to.

Maltese has had a lot of Sicilian influences, and later on Italian and 
English, but try to pronounce something like 'qagħaq'... (You pronounce 
it as '-a-', where each dash represents a glottal stop.)
