I know what you mean. If you want to, you can start with the raw 
wave forms, though. Plus there is an analog synth with a LOT of 
options. I'm quite sure there is every possibilty to make your 
own patches sound like crap ;-)

I know. I also own Absynth, and I just don't like the interface. 
I do like the Stylus RMX interface a lot, though (and also the 
other Spectrasonics progs). Very user friendly, very easy to get 
to grips with, but a lot deeper than you might think.

Oh, and BTW, there's also granular synthesis in it - very nice :-)
