I think it's mostly difficult and time consuming - the expense might 
come in when they need to hire a lawyer to write the application. 
There's the skilled workers program (H-1B visa) which is typically used 
for academics or management positions, but the company needs to make a 
good case that they can't find the same skills in the US.
