The soundtrack for Kiyoshi Kurosawa's _Kairo_ reminds me of
Angelo Badalamenti, dark ambient artist Caul and Penderecki,
with a little modern glitch thrown in for good measure.

It's a bit TV/straight to video in sound {ROMpler
orchestra}, but effectively conveys the film's dread.

The soundtracks for Tarkovsky's _Stalker_ and _Solaris_, by
Edward Artemyev {and Vyacheslav Ovchinnikov, uncredited on
_Solaris_} are excellent.

It's not a soundtrack, but Max Richter's _Blue Notebooks_m
which has a few fans on this list, is definitely worth
hearing.  It has orchestra, Reaktor and Tilda Swinton, which
is pretty well hot.

There are more, but that's what I've got right now.

Of course, there's always htis chestnut, which I throw out
every year or so:
