Many Linux distros have memory stick image vers to download.
It usually involves copying all files to the stick/card and running a 
script or batch file from a command shell that makes it a bootable thing.

This way you can create and test out distros very quickly to see if 
you'd like them, though rarely do these track persistent changes (means 
your settings are not saved, like a live distro) but with a fair bit of 
tweaking this can be changed.
