Plans for the Economic Apocalypse?

It's strange to say that after years of running way over our heads in debt,
my wife and I are actually better off financially now than we have been in a
long time. We saw early that the economy was going to get bad and really
worked hard to get all the debt bought down and made our lifestyle cuts
before we had to. Now that everything has gone in the crapper, we are
already adjusted.

This year I put up a ton of preserves but that was related more to the
Chinese and Mexican food scares which was a real wakeup call for me. It has
had the side effect of reducing our food bills drastically. Not only because
buying in bulk from farmers is cheaper (and better), but it tends to force
our eating habits back to more simple and therefore cheaper foods.

My plan is just to ride it out. As a historian, I tend to take the long
view and not be surprised by too much. I've read about far worse and folks
still survived. It just takes time to push the present into the past.

Hey,

So what are you guys doing in preparation for the coming economic
apocalypse? Pickling things? Moving in with the parents? Breeding
the cats for future food needs?

We're probably going to move to a farm in the country. I'm looking
forward to learning how to grow stuff.
