I just hope he can live up to expectations, we've done the 'slightly
left wing, big smile, good soundbites, younger generation' politician
thing over here with Blair, who won a landslide with his 'things can
only get better' campaign, and then didn't deliver. I wish he'd won
without the Democrats taking congress too, I think he'd have been far
better for the world as a toothless figurehead than as an unrestrained
policy maker.

As for it being the coming of Martin Luther King's dream, we thought
something similar when we elected a woman prime minister, but the
reality is that it's actually far harder now for a female politician
to get to the top. Even Angela Merkel's campaign in Germany was
blighted by the 'you can't elect a woman, don't you remember
Thatcher?' meme.

The other downside is that we lose Sarah 'finally, a beauty queen that
DOESNT want world peace' Palin. Job losses in the comedy and pr0n
lookalike fields are going to be terrible. We may never see a follow
up to  "Joe the Plumber in 'Who's Nailin' Palin?' II"!
