VNC Mac help

i'm trying to set up my mom's mac (we are both running 10.4.11) so i
can troubleshoot from my house. i've had her follow these directions
http://www.macminicolo.net/Mac_VNC_tutor.html precisely but when i run
chicken of the vnc on my mac it keeps timing out. i've tried it with
2.0b4 and 2.0b2 but both result in a timeout. i have her using this
widget, http://cip.physik.uni-bonn.de/~maahn/ip.html to get her IP
address.

suggestions?
