Not as cool as it could be.

It should have been ZX Spectrum hardware with an LCD bolted on so it
remained a Spectrum.  This would be easy to do as 9" monitors with
composite video in are freely available.

At present he's kept the worst part of the Spectrum - its keyboard.  I
replaced mine with a proper moving keyboard after about the first month
I had it back in 1983.  This was after I upgraded the RAM from 16Kbytes
to 48kbytes :-P
