I suppose the ignorant response to that is that they are all too stoned 
to care. But only someone really messed and ignorant would type that..

The proper response is that your government never cared.
It is only the people who care and less of them have the power to do 
anything at all about anything without it either costing them their job 
or involving so much effort it would burn them up.
