James,
> So, does anyone else have a serious/stupid gear problem.
Yes. I have bought things on eBay not because I wanted them but they were going for way less than they should.
I do have a thing for hardware samplers....
I have:
Cheetah SX16 - two of them - well they were going so cheap....
Casio FZ20m
Ensoniq Mirage rack - it was broken - I fixed it
Ensoniq EPS 16+ rack
Emu Emulator IIIxp
Roland S330
Roland S770 - mouse - green screen monitor - Fairlight! (well not really)
Akai CD3000i
I had:
Ensoniq EPS16+ keyboard
Casio FZ-1
Emu Emax SE
Emu Emax II
I do tend to buy broken gear cheap and fix them. This keeps the costs down and me/wife/kids happy. Also I buy modules that people don't rate but actually people miss out on a new palette of sounds - eg Evolution EVS-1, Elka EM22 analogue sound module, Elka EM44 FM sound module.
I have never paid more the £200 for any bit of gear and that was my JX-10.
However, I also have other hobbies which can get obsessive and expensive very quickly with the same GAS problems:
Air rifles
Metal detecting
Astronomy
At least pr0n is free else I'd be bankrupt by now ;)
Cheers
Chris
