I recently had the same problem. I ended up using the Nord Modular: I 
patched an envelope follower to trigger a synthetic drum. I fed the 
inputs through a dedicated send in my DAW where I used to heavy 
filtering and gating to ensure it triggered on the actual drum and not 
on the spill from the rest of the kit. The results were ok, but not 
earth-shaking...
