Renoise works great.

EnergyXT2 as well.

For super great fun, fire up the seq24 sequencer and any one of
multiple great linux softsynths (zynaddsubfx, omsynth, asynth, etc.)
and away you go .. very "Live"-like, in that you can record sequences,
trigger them, mute on/off, etc. and all the while tweak the synths in
a separate window.

Very fun. But you have to remember that under Linux, you have to do a
little setup work before you can start jamming - softsynths run
independently of each other, and you can make the connections all you
want. This very powerful, but you have to be patient and learn how to
do it a couple times before it makes sense. A little effort is
required. I've had a lot of fun with this in the last 6 months, but
I'm going back to hardware synths now that I've got my setup a little
more refined.

**ALSO**: The EEE PC is passé now .. there are far more powerful
machines for the same amount of $$ on the horizon. Shop a little. A
1.5ghz machine for €300 is available in our local Hofer supermarket
chain here in Austria: probably you'll start seeing other machines in
Netherlands too ..
