God. Ubuntu can suck.
I put it on this computer yesterday from the live CD.
First off, it didn't even get past the startup screen, so I had to
search (in XP) for a solution to that involving tagging on
all_generic_ide to the boot up line..
Then when it did get in, the network was fuxxored.
No matter what I did, the wireless seemed to always snatch the manually
entered DNS and put in the wrong one, then mozilla firefox wouldn't
connect at all (more edits) Nothing made it work. So I rebooted.
Then the network worked as if by magic so I tried to enable the fancy
graphical extras for the great UI experience.
At this point it failed again, saying my GFX card needed special drivers
and my approval.
It also started to nag me about updates so I let it storm off and DL
238Mb of updates, installed them all, then POOF, my vesa GFX card
settings are now knackered and it's back to 640x480 at 60Hz.
After hours of trying to fix the GFX, installing the right drivers,
following to the letter all the articles I could find, I finally almost
give up after reading another user experience with the Radeon HD2600XT.
It just doesn't work, but it might with this other tool.
So, I download this other tool and try and install it and it fails.
So NOW, I give up, pop in the windows XP boot disk, remove GRUB, wipe
out the linux partitions and get back to a set up where wired and
wireless works and so does everything else ;)

At least the Backtrack Linux Live Distro does work without any problems
at all...
