If you manage to get to Eindhoven, it isn't that difficult to go to 
Gert's place:

1) Take the funny-looking bus to Eindhoven railway station
2) Take the intercity train to Utrecht (leaves from platform 5)
3) Take a train to Ede-Wageningen
4) Ring Gert beforehand and beg a ride from the station :)

Depending on whether you travel alone, it would probably be cheaper than 
renting a car. Plus, keep in mind that they drive on the wrong side of 
the road in both Germany and the Netherlands.
