 Aye, it's a shame they went with a propritery interface.. If they'd
gone with USB-OTG it would open up a whole new world.
 An opportunity missed for them.

 FWIW, I'm of the opinion that apple are now almost on par with MS as
far as flakey products go.
My last OSX update, screwed my licensed copy of QT and it's codecs and
for some reason every so often my MacBook goes to sleep without
warning when on battery.

 So, no more auto updates for me, and probably no more apple products
for a long time.
