First thing : quantity (the one to 2 GB is fine, but the bigger the  
databases?). Next, it's problems with the Ram itself. but it looked a  
lot like some issues we've had with Macmusic servers about 2 years  
ago. Ram did it, until the next thing came in? CPU, better drives in  
raid etc.

Now as Peter wrote there's a possibility of nasty stuff in the kernel?

Plenty of choice ! :D enough to keep people busy? ;)
