Listening to the jams, I think there's one trivial piece of kit we  
need to have plugged into every instrument at a jam:

Synth stereo out -> [ box ] -> mixer (stereo)
                     [     ] -> headphone (stereo)


When the headphone gets plugged in the box there is no signal sent to  
the mixer.

Finally no more eternal preset auditions interrupting the jam! :)
