I had a similar type occurrence several years back. I found a software
package from an Australian company called the R_Studio that recovered
everything even though I had done a complete fdisk and format.

I would recommend not doing *anything* else to the drive and downloading
their demo. It won't do the recovery but it will show you what it can
recover. I spent the money and let it crunch for a day but it got
*everything* back. Best money I think I ever spent on tech.
