Maximum ram in windows?

Hi Peter,
The motherboard is a MSI P6N SLI-FI V2 and I have two identical
modules of 2GB. The vendor replied to my query with the following:

"When you have 4GB of RAM in your system, only Vista 64-bit can use 4GB
of RAM or higher.

Vista 32-bit, like XP 32-bit, will only report a max of 3.5GB (usually
about 3GB).

While the 32-bit architecture can technically address up to 4GB of RAM,
a determined amount is allocated towards your physical hardware.
This means you'll usually only have access to 3GB-3.5GB of RAM."

I guess that answers the question but I am pissed that there is 1GB of
ram there but not available.

Regards,

Declan.

What's the brand and model of the motherboard? How many modules do you
have, and what size is each?
