<div class="PlainText">So as you guys may know, I'm building a collection of 19" rack synth
<br>
modules, and because it was the decade of the 19" rack synth module, <br>
they're pretty much all from the 1990s. I recently acquired a second <br>
Proteus 2000 from a guy in the next village, and it contains the rare <br>
World Expedition ROM, so that saved me from paying extortionate prices <br>
on Ebay/Reverb.<br>

Anyway, I digress. I've been pretty adamant about getting rack modules <br>
because of space considerations, but then a couple of things happened:<br>
1) I discovered the Roland TR-8S (yes, I've been living under a rock for <br>
the past few years)<br>
2) I saw Tony's table with all the desktop modules<br>
3) I discovered the Waldorf STVC<br>
<br>
Let's start with the Waldorf. I covet the lush sound of string synths <br>
(Solina, Korg Trident, etc) from the 1970s. Waldorf make the <br>
Streichfett, which frankly looks like a lunch box, and it's yet another <br>
desktop module. The STVC is a full keyboard, so takes up even more <br>
space, but it's a VERY pretty keyboard. And it sounds sublime.<br>

Long story short, I'm not so hung up on 19" racks any more.<br>
<br>
So, this broadens the scope for a wavetable synth, which is still on my <br>
wish list. These are some of the options:<br>
1) Waldorf Microwave: asking prices are crazy, and I worry about the CEM <br>
chips<br>
2) Waldorf Microwave 2: my original choice<br>
3) Waldorf Microwave XT: too big and they turn an ugly brown<br>
4) Waldorf Microwave XTk: a thing of beauty, but too big really<br>
5) Waldorf M: nice, but cheap it ain't<br>
6) Korg Modwave: I need another keyboard like I need a hole in the head<br>
7) Modal Electronics Argon 8m: could be interesting, can be rack-mounted<br>
8) ASM Hydrasynth Desktop: can be rack-mounted<br>

The Waldorf Quantum and Iridium aren't in this list, mostly because <br>
they're different beasts altogether. I might still be interested in the <br>
Iridium at a later date.<br>
<br>
What's crazy is that some people say they don't like the sound of the <br>
Argon 8, but they do like the Hydrasynth. Other people say the exact <br>
opposite. In the same thread.<br>
<br>
What would be your favourite wavetable synth? Have I forgotten any? <br>
(Other than a PPG Wave...)<br>
