I never met Gert in person, in fact I don't <br></div><div dir="ltr">think I've met anyone on the bar in person. It was with deep sadness <br></div><div dir="ltr">that I read the news and we are all worse off for having lost such a <br></div><div dir="ltr">gentle spirit among us on the list and our current terrestrial home. My <br></div><div dir="ltr">thoughts are first with his family during what must be a incredibly <br></div><div dir="ltr">difficult time. I am truly sorry for their loss.<br></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">I've been thinking a lot lately about the perils of the internet but <br></div><div dir="ltr">also the amazing connections and community that form as well. I have not <br></div><div dir="ltr">been active much the past couple years but I do read and follow <br></div><div dir="ltr">everything posted here and via facebook from individuals.<br></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">I think the important thing here is that none of us has the time we may <br></div><div dir="ltr">want and often we are surprised when the news comes. This unfortunately <br></div><div dir="ltr">means we are left thinking of what we never said, or did. As I have <br></div><div dir="ltr">inevitably gotten older the nature of time means these shocks come more <br></div><div dir="ltr">frequently and most sadly become routine. In light of this, I've been <br></div><div dir="ltr">thinking a lot about Gert in particular and the Bar in general. I just <br></div><div dir="ltr">want to say, before anyone else slips away, you all are very important <br></div><div dir="ltr">to me and I have tremendous respect for this group - Each of you as <br></div><div dir="ltr">individuals, us as a group, the discussions, and even the arguments. I <br></div><div dir="ltr">cherish all of these things and I intend to be more active going forward <br></div><div dir="ltr">and not just read from the sidelines. Thanks to all of you for being <br></div><div dir="ltr">here for me and all of us.<br></div><div dir="ltr"><br></div><div dir="ltr">James R.
