I wanted to use a voice but didn’t have anything, and not much time to figure it out and record something. That’s why the cowbell is there. And yea it could use something a little more organic, it’s a bit cold. I tried to remedy the situation in the mellow part, recording an Omnichord and then Minimoog going through a echoplex but it could use something in the other parts. I felt it needed a melody that told a bit of a story, I might have overcompensated by having too many lines going at once which might have cluttered the point I was trying to make, also should have had them evolve a bit more. I’m still pretty happy with it, from a sound quality perspective I’m excited I got it sounding tight and from a musical one I feel it’s got a good amount of musicality vs. your standard dance tunes.

On Oct 1, 2017, at 9:23 AM, tom adam <tom.adam@thebigear.be> wrote:

Hi Andrew

I have no new advice to give you on the mixing part of the song.

It's not my kind of music, so I have no reference, but I'm
missing a 'reason' for the track. It's not 'pulling me in', if you
get what I mean. I would try to add something that catches the
listeners attention. (Like you did with the cowbell, but something
more powerful) A voice is the first thing that comes to mind...

A second thing I was thinking in the beginning of the track was
to remove one of these lead sound and replace it with a guitar
riff. (somehow I was thinking of a riff like Daft Punks 'loose
yourself to dance' king of thing) I think it would give an extra
'natural' feel to the song.

Good luck with the competition!

Cheers,

Hey guys, haven’t posted a new track in a while. I signed up for
the deadmau5 Masterclass a while back just for fun. They have a
contest where you submit a track and 1st place is 10k and a chance
for a release on Mau5trap. This track was tough for me from a
mix/master perspective because there are so many layers and
especially since I’m still learning. I’m using a combo of outboard
and plugs. Curious to see what you guys think of this version.
