On this Mac, I've just tried opening every item in Reason's 'recent files' list and playing them all at once, while editing this (and having a game open in the background) and I'm using just over half the available CPU power.

2. A Specialist DAW builder no... but you might want to think about the possibility of you ever wanting to do 4K video editing and/or playback, as that's the task that PCs are currently on the cusp of doing/not doing. If 4k takes off, a non 4k capable machine might look out of date very quickly..

Personally if I was buying a machine today, I'd want to spend at least half an hour playing with the new 5K screen retina iMac before making my mind up that I could settle for anything less. I stand by my assertion about 6 years ago on this very list that my 30" Apple cinema display was the best money I ever spent, so screen quality (and therefor lack of eye strain) is my top priority.

- Andy_R

On 15 December 2014 at 19:11, foRUMS 4 punkdISCO <forums@punkdisco.co.uk> wrote:

Now you guys have got me thinking I really need update my DAW..

Traditionally, I have always had a completely separate PC for music.
