Yamaha used to be the company that came up with new, exciting things
and directions. They stopped doing that, because nobody was buying
it.

Thing is, people want to buy what they know, and they know how to
make it sound good. You practically need a PhD to program a DX7, the
FS1r is more complex than a space shuttle, and the VL1 is exquisite
in both its sound and its price tag.
Hardware manufacturers have been feeling the pinch from software for
quite a while now, and investing in a potential turkey runs the risk
of taking your company to bankruptcy, especially in this day and
age.
