Thunderbolt 2 Audio Interface

While I missed your initial question I can tell you that using a fire face 400 by RME works like a charm with:

- USB C to thunderbolt adapter
- thunderbolt to fire wire 800 adapter
- FireWire 800 -> 400 cable 

On my 2016 MacBook Pro with 4 USB-C outs. 

Firefaces sound amazing and can be had for cheap these days (factor in the adaptors - it’s another 50$!)
