Hi everyone,

I finally have the time to write something.

Recently I played a gig in Utrecht. On the way back I passed Wageningen and thought if Gert, and ended up writing an email the next day, to the list.

Jay immediately responded in private and told me about Gert’s serious condition, so I was expecting this news.

The weird thing was: when I passed Wageningen, I had a strange feeling of “something is very wrong with Gert, I haven’t heard from him in a long time, I hope he’s doing okay”. I was wondering about death and how in a group like us, after 25 years, it’s not at all unlikely that someone dies.

I hope he didn’t suffer too much and I hope that he could say good by to everyone dear to him. I hope everyone near him was sort of expecting it, enabling everyone to prepare and say good bye to him in return.

I only saw Gert a few times. Once i attended a wave world show in Gütersloh, a small German town in the middle of nowhere that is loaded with money because several huge companies (among them international media company Bertelsmann) have their headquarters there.

I was surprised about their music as much as their cult following. The whole event, a festival for Kosmische Musik and such, was one of those moments that I really enjoy in this world, where you come across a scene, an entire world, you had no idea existed. Once you scratch the surface of it you realize the extend, the depth, the complexities and the dedication that people have, put in and get out of it.

I left that night, a little bit richer, knowing Gert had opened my mind to that.

Around the same time (so it must have been about 2011), Gert mastered our second Resonator CD (“Trust”). Not only did he do a great job, all
He ever wanted for it was a very specific bottle of whiskey which I gladly got him.

Unfortunately I still feel I hardly knew him, mainly from his kind postings.

But to me it seems that the world is a better place because he was around. And must celebrate his memory because we were happy enough to meet and converse with him.

I’m not sure how I could contribute anything to the album that would do him justice, but let’s try anyway!;-)

Kai

Ps: tonight I’m playing in Amsterdam, if anyone (joost?) is around, hit me up: +491725331572.
