Swing

As with other things, I experiment...swing individual sounds, or a whole group, which sometimes can be an entire kit or a grouping of same-sounding hits.  Usually in Maschine, as that's where I like playing around with beats.  But same applies to tracks in Ableton Live.

I was having a discussion about swing the other night.

Question was:

Do you add swing to all 'percussive sounds' together? DO you add the 
same swing to the bassline/lead?

I know, just try it out and see what the result is, but we where talking 
about how the professionals do it. Is there a general rule of thumb?
