Wouldn't USB 3.0 be fast enough? It sounds like a more plausible interface.

After all, suppose you have 48 bit, 192 kHz channels, in other words 
total overkill. You could still run over 1100 channels of those over a 
10 Gbps Thunderbolt connection.
