yeah - with the emphasis on mechanical tape noise, so, piezos right up
close to the heads - one can get piezo discs of many sizes, so worth
experimenting. Can put a resistor in parallel with the piezo for a high
pass effect (get rid of the predictable parts of the motor sound)....

i gotta confess i saw an awesome piece in wien last year, with a camera
on an old tape machine (no actual tape), plus contact mic signals from
the mechanism, and they processed the video (live adjustments) through
max, with a back projection
