Looks like you could benefit greatly from having the challenge of making the Pi work, though.  I'm pretty sure your skills aren't as bad as you think, in the C department .. and there is a lot of support you can depend on, in this regard, I think.

I've been really enjoying watching whats been going on with FPGASynth over the years .. so I hope to see some of your progress, then!
