Most people mix in the box with softsynths and just have a few pieces
of hardware.  In my own case, the 828 itself has enough analog and
digital IO to cover everything and even leaves a few ports open.  I
can't see this trend reversing.

In the future, I see more focus on quality DA conversion and less and
less AD.  It only makes sense in most circumstances.
