Art is an expression  of culture, which is one reason why we don't see

Looks like some sort of religious incantation, judging by the repeated 
patterns. But that's just conjecture.

Really? If you look at pictures in isolation, and you'd judge humanity 
by the relative proportions of the kind of pictures going around the 
internet, you'd think that we did nothing all day but have intercourse 
with surgically modified young women. :)
