That's so funny... :-)  my boys got into the Beatles a couple of years ago, which was great as I got to re-listen to a whole catalog of songs that I hadn't heard or played in a really long time.  That hard panning was amongst the many audio surprises that was part of that whole listening experience.  While we get a chuckle out of that now, but those lads and George Martin did some very cool things in the studio.
