Arturia Origin

It's 2k, but Arturia has had price drops on everything so I'm not sure if it's going to pop back up. One thing I learned is it's not a hardware version of their softsynths, and it's not really ment to be. The minimoog is the only pre built synth that comes on it, though pre built versions of the other v synths are supposed to come in an update. You can of course build your own versions of the synths, though one note - the SOS guy who was reviewing it maxed the cpu trying to build a CS80. But it's really about building monsters that never existed, moog oscillators to jupiter filters and so on... the routing looks pretty deep, 4 parts multi(each with their own effects), analog style sequencer. It's basically an analog style workstation. Apparently the presets suck ass, even though a minor thing, I think this really messes with peoples first impressions who don't bother to dig down into the synth.

Apparently (according to the liner notes) it was used on Vitalic's Flashmob album, which has a sound I dig. Though I'm sure there is a French connection somewhere in that.

It got kinda slammed in some of the press but I think it's a pretty neat experiment. There is a good amount wrong with it but it just seems like a big fat guilty pleasure to modularly combine bits based on classic synths :)
