Hmm, let's see:
MOTU Midiexpress 128 (8x8): Euro 219.-
8x ESI Midimate: Euro 152 + Hub 20 + case

Admittedly, the hack is a bit cheaper, but not anywhere as much where  
I could be bothered.

Let's hope the MOTU turns out to be reliable...
