I've got myself a Yamaha SU700....

Chris--

Unless you load it up with a lot of long 44.1KHz, 16bit, Stereo samples I don't think you'll use anywhere near the entire 68MB. Glad to hear they already had it fully expanded RAMwise for you. I'm jealous :) Dare I ask the price you got basically a brand new one for?

Also of note: there's a button press command on power up to check the OS version. If it's not the latest version (1.03), you might want to contact Yamaha UK to see if they can send you an EPROM with the latest version burned to it. No feature improvements, just a few minor bugfixes.

Here's an old post from the su700 at yahoogroups.com mailing list I posted 10 years ago about the OS version:
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you bought an SU700 when they first came out in the States (early spring 99)
then you might have the original OS (1.00 1.00). Newer SU700 owners
probably have the latest OS (1.01 1.03). To check you OSROM version and run
some self tests on the SU700, hold down the SONG and SYSTEM buttons while
turning the SU700 on. The version # will display for a few seconds, and
then you can choose to either manual or automatically run through the tests.
The 1.01 1.03 update was done in late summer 1999 and nothing new since
then.

P.S. Gert: I'm always here lurking in the background. Have been since day 1 back in 1995/6. I just don't post more than once or twice a month nowadays due to the business of daily life and lack of music gear & time to play with nowadays. :(

I have just received the unit now. It's in mint condition. It seems to
have been owned by a company that organises events and conferences
judging by the logo on the flight case it came in.

Happily it is fully expanded - 68MB :) But no output expander or SCSI so
loading all 68MB via floppy will be very interesting!

Cheers

Chris
